thenerdygirl: (What would Dorothy do?)

Writing about feeling down yesterday was pretty helpful and I think acknowledging it in a semi-public manner was the kick in the pants I needed. Why is it always easier to write here how I’m feeling then it is to tell people in my day-to-day life? I suspect it has to do with the fact that my friendslist shares so much that it makes me feel more comfortable doing so. That and I feel like there’s less expectations, if that makes any sense. Anyway, last night I made a point of trying to get back into writing in my paper journal (yep, I keep both an online & offline one) which always helps me figure out what’s wrong and what I need...when I keep up with writing in it.

One problem I noticed was my increased smart phone usage the last few months. I’ve developed a bit of a bad habit of mindlessly scrolling through my phone, especially before bed and when I get up. The new plan is to replace that with more paper journal writing and reading, which will hopefully help me feel more productive. There will be a bunch of other small changes too but I won’t bore you with the details....especially since I want to share these images instead:

These origami pieces are part of Cristian Marianciuc Origami journal series which I first saw on I love this series! I’m nowhere near as good as this artist but it has me itching to break out my origami papers again.

Those birds are awesome!

Isnt it terrible how addicting smart phones are?  I accidently picked up a basic Nokia Microsoft smart phone fir $40 on sale.  Best oops i ever made!  I know cut my usage down a lot.

It is terrible! I'm pretty good about not using it when I'm with people but when I'm by myself I'm bad for reading on it.

I'm a big fan of getting those feelings out in the open and out of your head, even if it's just a private locked entry. It really does help somehow!

Ooooooh, I love those origami pieces! So gorgeous!

It does indeed. I think for me it just helps me calm down and stop ruminating so much.

Love that origami, so pretty.

I used to be way worse with my phone, then I deactivated Facebook. I'm still bad but not nearly as much as before. Still debating if I'll put it back on again or not.

It's amazing how easy it is to waste time on a phone, isn't it? I'm debating if I should delete the app from my phone too. I'm going to see how I make out with trying to cut back first.

I do the same. More so when I first get up. With checking / scrolling through my smart phone. Bad addiction. And just getting on computer and being on the computer too much. I have addiction to the internet.

Same here. I'm on the computer at work all day and then I turn around and play with my phone half the night. Well, not every night but definitely more than I like.

Yeah. I understand. I'm checking LJ too much. Facebook too. I'm checking them way too often. Part of me, is like I don't want to do that because then I don't have time to do other things.

Haha, I feel the same way when it comes to knitting. I just don't have the patience.

Wow, I'd love to see your origami too when you get back into it. I love it. I'm not sure I could do it though!

OMG, that origami actually took my breath away for a second. SO AMAZING.

I'm a big fan of the paper journals route. I have three at the moment. A day planner for more detailed descriptions of my day, a "line a day" journal where I try to find the silver lining in any day (which is challenging as hell sometimes), and a prompt "Q&A" journal. I'm thinking for 2016 I'm going to kick the day planner to the curb for an art journal, expressing each day in doodles or watercolors or whatever. :)

Same here!

Cool, I've always wanted to do one of those line a day journals but I've had to accept I just do not do well with ___ a day projects. I think I've only ever completed three, a instagram one, drawing one, and flossing lol. A art journal sounds nice though.

I was surprised by the Q&A journal because it actually wound up being more fun than I thought, and it's a five year journal so it will be interesting to track my answers over the next five years. I think last night's question was, "what song would be your self-portrait today?" Then they have little social living questions like "how much is a gallon of gas right now?" Totally random. :)
