I hope everyone had a good night out or a good night in. We chose to stay in this weekend which was nice, especially after this week. Friday night we had a movie night with our friends at our place and watched the following:

Final Girls

Thanks to [ profile] orangerful for mentioning that one a while back. i loved it! It's one of my new favourites and already I want to watch it again.

Also enjoyable although I think my former teacher friend enjoyed the most out of all of us lol.

Blood-Sucking Bastards

Also good but it was a little slow getting started I found.

Finally, we re-watched Freddy Vs Jason

Like all the Freddy & Jason movies ever this one dates itself. Not my favourite NOES film but it's a fun one.

As for Saturday night, John and I decided to skip going downtown to Mardi Gras (A big street party on George Street where all the bars are) and stay home. One, because we were hoping to get trick-or-treaters and two, because we both had hard weeks at work and just wanted to relax. We did get several trick-or-treaters but sadly have lots of candy still left over. According to a local trick-or-treat map we're surrounded by busy trick or treat areas but for some reason our block gets a small volume. Maybe something gruesome happened here years ago that nobody wants to talk about....or maybe the local kids are too lazy to walk over this way lol.

All in all, I'm glad we stayed in. It was nice to relax and watch Hocus Pocus, followed by the Royals vs Mets game.

I give you my feelings in gif form:

I've been pretty stressed at work lately (about work and other stuff) and people have noticed more than I thought. Or at least my department head noticed. She commented on it and gave me the same advice she gave her girlfriend about taking a decadent shower to relax. Showing after the gym will have to do but I'm thinking that will help with the stress. I also put in for a few vacation days in November. So far I'm feeling better already...but then getting off work generally makes me feel that way lol.

There's no major plans for this weekend, aside from checking out Crimson Peak with a group of friends on Saturday. Ultimately I'm just aiming for cleaning and relaxing and maybe making soup. Oh, and watching Halloween/horror themed stuff naturally. Lately we've been watching Scream Queens which I have to say I am enjoying. It's got issues but it does remind me of a gorier, sillier Heathers which is one of my favourite 80s films ever.Scream Queens is sadly lacking a decent JD or Veronica type character but Chanel 1 makes a great alternative Heather 1.

Another quick drive by post because holy-crap busy. So looking forward to the upcoming long weekend. I will try to catch up but just want to say I hope everyone's well :)

I know Halloween Monster themed cereals is a thing in North America but I'm not sure if it was/is sold outside of North America. They were introduced in 1971 and there five types: Count Chocula, Fraken Berry, Boo Berry, Fruit Brute, and finally, Fruity Yummy Mummy. Most of this sugary cereal regular production was stopped in the 80s/90s but it comes out seasonally for Halloween. I never ate these as a kid because apparently pop-tarts were okay but this shit was too sugary, according to Mom's logic. So naturally, as a mature adult and Halloween nut, when I saw two of the five in stores I wanted to grab one and see what I was missing out on. I picked Boo Berry because frankly, the mascot looks like he should be called Booze Berry. Tell me this cartoon ghost doesn't look a little tipsy:

Here's what the actual cereal looks like. It's hard to see here but the cereal bits are dark purple, I don't know why they're showing up as brown. Taste wise, it does taste like blueberry and tastes fine. If you don't like sweet cereals then you won't like this but if sweet cereals make you feel nostalgic for cartoons on Saturday morning, it'll fit that craving.

Finally, on the back of the box there's cut out mask for a instagram contest which I'm undoubtably going to cut out for shits and giggles.

Anyway, that was today's Halloween themed post. I'm off to visit my parents and I hope everyone is having a good sunday!

Who has two thumbs and makes a goal to post everyday only to skip the second day? This gal! Oh well, I was considering it a pretty loose goal anyway. It was super busy at work yesterday and then after work John and I went to see The Martian. We both enjoyed it, John liked it better than Gravity which I can understand because it's more story focused and isn't solely focused on one character so you get a feel for the other people and the world in the story. I'm not sure how it compares to the book, which of course everyone who's read it claims the book is better, but I did enjoy it. I was also surprised by who was in it and John & I enjoyed making all sorts of Marvel jokes thanks to Sebastian Stan and Kate Mara being in it lol.

Now, onto the halloween/autumn goodness. I was going to post pictures of my two costume dresses which arrived yesterday but sadly one of them has to be sent back because it's damaged :( I'll still post pictures of the other, non damaged one later and hopefully I'll get the replacement one before Halloween but I figured I'd post about something else. Instead of costumes I decided to post about one of my favourite witchy movies, The witches of Eastwick!

It's campy, dated, fun, and probably the reason I liked Cher as a kid. This and Mermaids. It's loosely based off the John Updike novel The Witches of Eastwick and is one of the rare examples where the movie is a lot better than the book. Like miles and miles better. If you like the book, that's cool and I respect your opinion but my opinion is 'Fuck that book'. There are few books that I can say I absolutely loath but that's one of them. It's sexist, homophobic, and all characters are completely unlikable. The only redeemable aspect was that author used some real witchcraft lore in it but other than that, it was awful. I finished it because I kept hoping it would get better and I'd see some of the charm that I saw in the movie but no.

Now, I'm not saying the movie doesn't have flaws because oh boy, it does have some flaws but I think the flaws are easier to ignore because ultimately it's fun. The Alex, Jane, and Sukie characters are likeable leads. Jack Nickleson's character, Daryl, gets a few laughs and pulls off repulsive yet the viewer can still somewhat understand why the Alex, Jane, and Sukie are charmed and attracted to him. Plus, who doesn't love it when the trio get to pull some witchy comeuppance on the judgmental people in their town? I'll stop here because I don't want to spoil in case anyone hasn't seen it but if you like witch movies it's worth checking out. If only for Cher/Alex's snark.

It begins

It's funny, I post a gif of tress with turned leaves but meanwhile all the trees here are still mostly green. In fact, today is actually warm, almost summer like. Oh well. I've decided that for October I want to try and make one Autumn/Halloween themed post a day, hence the gif. I'm going to keep it open to whatever strikes my fancy that day so it could be a text post, could be pictures or videos, music, icons, gifs, a combination, etc.

On that note, here's something grisly from my Halloween playlist - Halloween by Stephen Lynch

Ah, good old gifs. How else would I express my desire for murder and still have it be amusing & not taken seriously? Today has the potential to be a good day but my body and brain are having none of that. I went to go grab a coffee earlier, thinking it would help since coffee usually cheers me up, but the other customers in the coffee shop just brought out the hulk smash urge me. I was taken aback by how vicious I felt toward one person who got in my way but thankfully I would never ever EVER act on such a thought. It did make me realize that I need to avoid having too much face to face contact with people who annoy me today because I am just not in the right head space this morning. Thankfully my job allows for me to be quiet and keep to myself on days like this.

The rest of the weekend a.k.a Sunday ) Hope everyone else is having a better Monday!

So I added and was added by a bunch of new people thanks to the latest friending frenzy and I meant to post a hello/about me post back on Friday. It's been super busy the past two days so that got put on the back burner. Apologies and welcome to my journal! I'm not going to do a whole post about me because I did a bunch of posts/surveys very recently so if you're really curious, please check out this About me survey or this People I post about post, or just ask away if you have any questions ^_^

Now for a little rundown of the weekend:

  • Friday - Went to Yuk Yuks comedy club Friday night thanks to [ profile] lady_green_bat winning tickets again. We had a fantastic time, especially since all three comics and the MC were great. Normally whenever we go to comic shows there's always one comic or two who aren't that funny so it's pretty rare to have all three be so good.

  • Saturday - My little cousin got married so it quite eventful! The morning we were rushing around to make it to the wedding or, in my case, hobbling because I stupidly wore heels. John and I were almost late but luckily no wedding ever starts on time. It was held outside and not a traditional church wedding which was fantastic, even though it was foggy and drizzly all yesterday. They lucked out and the rain held off until the evening. Another great thing is that the dinner and dance were happening several hours later so John & I got to go off and do a bunch of stuff instead of having to wait around after the ceremony. We went to Smittys for lunch, hit the gym for an hour, grabbed a coffee and then checked out the Spirit of Halloween store.

Of course I forgot my wallet and could only look at the fun Halloween stuff but that was probably for the best. I would have undoubtedly spent way too much. I looooooove Halloween. So much so that if I had the money, the space, and enough trick-or-treaters to justify it, I would totally do a haunted house. Sadly I have none of these things but there was a bunch of Halloween paraphernalia that I would have purchased had I brought my wallet.

The only downside of Halloween here on the island is that there aren't a lot of activities for adults outside of Mardi Gras, which is the big street party on George Street where all the bars are. I've done Mardi Gras a few times but the fun always wore off pretty quickly because a couple of my friends always get shit faced fall down drunk. Then we're stuck babysitting them the rest of the evening, trying to make sure they don't run off or drink more. I wish there were more adult Halloween parties that didn't revolve solely around drinking. I'm hoping to have a horror movie night on October 30 so that'll be one thing but haven't figured out what to do on the 31st.

Anyway, enough of my musing about Halloween, I hope everyone's having a good weekend!
