I'm a adequate woman. I am looking groovy man. Signed, Galina.

Today’s subject line comes from a short but sweet spam email soliciting me to start a relationship with a Russian woman. How will I ever break it to Galina that I am not the groovy man she’s seeking?

I wasn’t on Livejournal much Wednesday and wasn’t on at all on Thursday so I have a lot of journal reading to catch up on, which is really nice. It’s been a while since I’ve had to hit the previous button on my friends list in order to catch up on two days. Before I get to that I figured I’d post a short update myself. Nothing of real interest happened on Wednesday except John and I went to a local diner that was awful which was a disappointing because I had heard it was good...although, in retrospect, the guy who told me it was good was a man of questionable tastes who thinks Swiss Chalet is fine dining. Nothing against Swiss Chalet of course but I always found it funny that this guy talked about a chain restaurant like it was the height of dining experiences. Anyway, suffice to say the diner was terrible. John’s meal came with a side of Fly (They remade it and comp’d him 50% for that) and my side dish had clearly been sitting around for while and tasted old. No, I didn’t complain because it took a while for John’s dish to be remade and the main part of my dish was fine and very filling. Enough bitching about Wednesday though, let’s move on to Thursday which was the much better day.

First off, I decided to take Thursday off two reasons. One, I had a dentist appointment, always a source of anxiety. Two, I’ve been itching to take a day off to be on my own. So I decided to take Thursday off completely as a way of making the dentist trip less terrible. Why would a trip to dentist be terrible? I feel like most people already know why but to spell it out, I have a huge fear of going to the dentist. I've had it ever since I was a kid and I know it’s completely irrational but that doesn’t change the fact that whenever I get in a dentist chair and someone starts poking at my teeth I’m highly tempted to bolt and run. To date, I’ve never actually ran from the dentist and I consider that a personal success.

Yesterday was actually good though thanks to the dental hygienist who talked a lot but in a way that kept me entertained and distracted from the sound of metal scraping my teeth. I didn’t have any cavities and I learned that, barring abnormal circumstances, I’ll never have to get my wisdom teeth removed because they’re small and not going to come out. The exact words when I asked? “Oh you’ve got cute little wisdom teeth. They’re not big enough to come out”. Never heard of wisdom teeth being described as cute but I’ll take it! I was a very happy camper when leaving the dentist yesterday. I spent the rest of my day off cleaning and that night my friends, John, and I all got free tickets to go to Yuk Yuks comedy club. The comedians we got to see are Shaun Burton, Chris Pierce, and Paul Haywood. All locals and all pretty funny but Chris Pierce was the best. It was his first show as a professional and he did a fantastic job. All in all, it was groovy night.

I had to laugh at the Galina comment! LOL.

Reading this entry gave me Canadian flashbacks. My husband always makes fun of Swiss Chalet although I've never been there I don't think. I think he has a friend who also thinks it is fine dining, lol.

I love Yuk Yuks! I've been to the one in London, Ontario a few times and always had a good time there. My husband likes to sit close to the stage, so we get made fun of by the comedians.

I also hate the dentist, but my terror has kept me away for something like 7 years :x It's TERRIBLE and I know that... but from the time I was 12 until I was in my 20s, I had to have a lot of dental work done + my dentist was an asshole (when I was working at Walmart, he responded with, "That's all?") So once I was off my parents insurance I just... stopped going. So kudos to you for having the willpower to make yourself go despite your fears!

And forgive me for the dumb question but I added so many people last week that I've gotten my who's-who mixed up... It seems that you're in Canada (Swiss Chalet, Yuk Yuks), yes? Which province was it again? Or maybe they have Swiss Chalet and Yuk Yuks in the States too and I'm ignorant :P

Ugh, dentists. I never used to mind them when I was younger, but now that they insist on x-rays every visit it's a source of perpetual dread.

[identity profile] phantoms.livejournal.com 2015-08-21 05:39 pm (UTC)(link)
I side eye anyone who recommends Swiss Chalet lol.

[identity profile] sandysmemory.livejournal.com 2015-08-21 08:04 pm (UTC)(link)
You have cute wisdom teeth! LOL

Im happy you don't have to have them pulled! The dentist over drugged me and messed up on mine ewwww.

We had a Swiss Chalet in my hometown, and I loved it when I was a kid. I actually thought it was fine dining too. But I was young and we lived in a small town so I hadn't experienced many restaurants. I know better now. :P

Yay for not having to get wisdom teeth out! My dentist said it was 50/50 that I might have to take them out, although I feel like if they were going to come out or cause me pain it would have happened by now.

My wisdom teeth are at an odd angle but they are not moving so the dentists pretty much don't care about them. They always ask me if they bother me and I'm like "NOPE!" so I guess it's not an issue until then.

We had a "Steak and Shake" open up down the road from us, only one in Maryland. It's a fast food place but the way the line was, you'd think it was the best thing ever. We went there on a whim one day when we noticed the line was short and it was such a disappointment! The food was okay but not "wait in a drive through around the block" okay. I don't know why people sat in line, I'm happy we only waited 20 minutes.

cute wisdom teeth is way better then infected wisdom teeth :)

I have to admit that I love reading some of those spam emails. They're so very strange!
I am with you on people who feel that chain restaurants are fine dining. I try to avoid them as much as I can (with other options available!) and I always side-eye people who recommend them!
And good news on the dentist front!

[identity profile] thenerdygirl.livejournal.com 2015-08-24 11:35 am (UTC)(link)
My favourite part was that the writer thought adequate was a enticing description. As we all know, adequate is exactly what people want in a mate :rolls eyes:

Your husband and you are braver people than I am lol. I will sit in the front if that's the table we're given but I much prefer to be in the back during comedy shows.

[identity profile] thenerdygirl.livejournal.com 2015-08-24 11:43 am (UTC)(link)
Thanks. I stopped going back in 2001 once I was off my parent's insurance and didn't go back until 2009 so you're not terrible or alone in avoiding the dentist. The only reason I went back is because I was having headaches and tooth pain....which apparently was caused by having several cavities >_<. So that made me realize that I had to start going regularly even if I hated it. Although, interestingly enough, when I returned to my dentist office in 2009 their operations had changed and they were making a point of including people's dentist fears on people's records so that the dentists and hygienist can be aware and adjust for that. So I found that helpful too.

No problem, I completely understand. I use to have it in my profile but I am Canadian, from Newfoundland to be exact. You're in Ontario, right?

[identity profile] thenerdygirl.livejournal.com 2015-08-24 11:45 am (UTC)(link)
Agreed, I usually feel dred when I hear they have to do an x-ray too. X-rays always seem to reveal hidden cavities and problems but this time I was lucky.

[identity profile] thenerdygirl.livejournal.com 2015-08-24 11:50 am (UTC)(link)
I do the same when people say Swiss Chalet and East Side Marios' are great restaurants lol.

[identity profile] thenerdygirl.livejournal.com 2015-08-24 11:51 am (UTC)(link)
Apparently lol.

Aw no, I'm sorry to hear that. It's bad enough to have to get them pulled but to get them messed up? That's pretty terrible. I hope recovery wasn't too bad.

[identity profile] thenerdygirl.livejournal.com 2015-08-24 11:55 am (UTC)(link)
Oh yeah, I use to think going to the local Chinese buffet was fine dining when I was a kid lol. I know better now too but I still like going to that restaurant.

Hopefully you won't have to get your wisdom teeth taken out!

[identity profile] thenerdygirl.livejournal.com 2015-08-24 12:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Good to hear they're not hurting you and that you don't have to get them hauled out anytime soon (hopefully never).

A huge line pretty much happens anytime a new restaurant or store opens in St. John's. It's a small city so anything new generates a lot of buzz. I remember when we got a Menchie's yogurt place they had a line out door almost every day for 4 or 5 weeks. Once the hype died down my partner and I checked it out and I was baffled. It was nice but not different than any other ice cream or yogurt shop.

Very true :D

[identity profile] thenerdygirl.livejournal.com 2015-08-24 12:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Same here! Sometimes I think it would be fun to write a story based on one.

There are some chains that I like when I want something quick but I find it annoying when local people talk like the chains are the best restaurants in the province when we have a ton of great local places that are way better.

[identity profile] twodottedlines.livejournal.com 2015-08-24 12:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Okay fair point, I made the assumption that you were referencing more of the sit-down dinner and I hold my view for that, but do have a number of fast chains that I like - things like burrito places and pita spots, shawarma chains, etc. And I do love A&W, their veggie burger is actually somewhat tasty, even though it is soy based and does end up making me regret eating it. Ha.

I am indeed! In Toronto. But I promise I'm not one of those Torontonians that all other Canadians hate :P haha

Sorry for the late reply! I haven't been on the computer much since last week.
