Silver lining to the grey cloud
Jun. 4th, 2019 12:10 pmI signed up for an art journaling class that I was told was going to be an adult class but just heard back that the class dropped the age down to 14 and up. Years ago I had something similar happen except I didn’t learn the class range had dropped until I walked into that class. I was 17 at the time and most of the other students were 10-12 with one other girl who was 15 and just as disgusted as I was about it.
That original class had been advertised for 15 to 18. For older students hoping to build their portfolio for applying to post-secondary studies. The 15 year old girl & 17 year old me banded together and got through it and she’s the only aspect I remember about that class. I don’t remember learning anything because the class ended up being catered to the younger student’s skill level & interest.
I’m a lot older now and the potential of being the only thirty-something in a class of teens made me nope the fuck out of that class. I know some would say ‘suck it up and go anyway, it might be fun’ and ‘It’s just kids’. Maybe it would be and trust me, I don’t have anything against teens or kids but...I just don’t want to do an art class with them. I really don’t.
Especially as I use journaling to deal with the heavier things in my life and to help process strong emotions. So yeah, I’m disappointed as I was looking forward to the class but on the flip side, I am very grateful I got the heads up about the class before showing up like last time.
