Faster than a speeding mullet

Today’s subject line is a chapter title from the electron resource Superman: the unauthorized biography by Weldon Glen. One of my favourite things about working at a library is just seeing the odd titles used. Sadly this resource was being removed when I saw it so I never got to read the chapter but I’m sure it would have been entertaining. I remember Superman's 90s mullet, along with that black and silver costume though I think it was still better than the Superman Blue/Red electricity look.

Overall my weekend was good but pretty quiet. Saturday was spent running errands, making tacos with John and watching Bones on Netflix, also with John. He’s a big fan of the show and related books so he’s gotten me into watching it. It’s interesting because I dislike the main character Temperance but yet find that I’m sort of addicted to watching it. At least I like watching the secondary characters. Have you ever watched a show where you hated the main character or characters but loved the secondary characters?

As for Sunday, I didn’t do much during the day but at night I went to a bridal shower for a woman named Sam who will be marrying my younger cousin Albert next month. I went because Mom didn’t want to go along and I was expecting it to be dull and awkward since I don’t know Sam or her friends/family but it was surprisingly fun. The party Great Gatsby themed, there were lots of great little games, and the two hours flew by. Normally I hate showers, baby or wedding so it was really nice to go to one and not spend the whole time wishing I could leave.

After the shower I went home, watched Defiance & a bit of Cutthroat Kitchen with John before heading off to bed. All in all, it was a nice relaxing weekend.

Random: Greek Mythology as described by tumblr. I always get a kick out of these descriptions so thought I'd share.

I'd never seen that Superman Blue/Red Electricity look, though I'm not a huge Superman fan so that could be why. Crazy.

Defiance is a great show!
And this does sound like a very nice weekend, not too much to exhaust you, but at the same time no stress.

That particular version of Superman Blue/Red only ran for a few months in 1998 and I think the backlash was bad so it got buried in DC history. The only reason I saw it was because I was a huge Supergirl fan at the time and he made a few appearances. Apparently there was a earlier version back in 1963 which I never knew till I looked it up this morning.

It is! I started watching for Tony Curran back when it started but I was immediately hooked.

Capslocked YES! I get that pretty much all the time, and especially with procedural shows, where they like to give their main characters all the angst of protagonist-driven drama shows, but less of the air time to actually, y'know, explore any of it. Lilly Rush on Cold Case is my go-to example -- she got a new breed of angst or potential development every week, but the show's focus was about 87% on the guest cast / crime of the week so she never got more than two scenes to actually deal with any of it.

Also, on a more petulant and shallow level, if I'm more interested in the background characters to begin with, especially ones with very little screen-time in the first place (looking at you, Fringe) I tend to get annoyed with the main character much more easily because I'm seeing so much more of them than the characters I'm actually invested in.

Oh, I loved the main character in Bones. I wasn't sure at first because she was so different to the character I loved in the books but I really grew to love her. Stopped watching about Season 7 though cos it got silly.

My guy John loves her too and for that reason, because she is so different which he finds really amusing. She has grown on me more recently since she's developed more as a character but initially the character's general rudeness plus her dismissive attitude toward psychology and emotional intelligence was very grating for me. I guess it just went against my own values so much that it was hard for me to relate to her like writers intended for the audience. I do relate to her love of Wonder Woman though so at least that's something :D

I'm only as far as season five but I can see a tone shift in the show since Booth's medical issues have come up. I find I really enjoy Hodgins, Sweets, Booth and the interns so I'm still sticking with it for now but I guess I'll see once we hit the later seasons.

I love Alton Brown lol hes so funny wicked in Cut Throat Kitchen lol I admit though I love his sock puppets in Good Eats that go around burping because they are representing Yeast Molecules lol

I haven't seen Good Eats although I've heard good things about it. The idea of Alton Brown using sock puppets is a funny mental picture lol.

She is starting to grow on me but yeah, Hodgins, Sweets, and Booth are still my favourites. I don't think they'll be ousted soon unless something happens in seasons 6 and onward.

Yeah, that's a good one :D My favourite one is about Cerberus actually being named Spot in translation.
