Be excellent to each other

Recently I told myself I wasn’t buying any more books or movies till after January 2016 but of course, after saying that, did I do everything I could to avoid the discount bin? Of course I didn’t. At least I can console myself with the fact that all together it was less than twenty dollars and that all three movies were cheaper than they would have been on Amazon or Amazon marketplace.

I feel I should explain that I love B-movies, cheesy movies, and movies others might classify as terrible and that I make no apologies for this love. Judge if you must :P So what so-called terrible choices did I make yesterday?

1: The 10th Kingdom, back when I was a teen and before Once upon a time or Fables the comic book, this was my favourite interpretation of fairy tales meeting the modern world.
2: Splash, I can’t justify spending twenty five bucks on The Little Mermaid but I can justify spending five bucks on the second place childhood classic.
3: Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure & Bogus Journey double feature. Ok, so this might qualify as terrible but for five bucks I figured why not? It was the last copy and I'm a sucker for nostalgia.

Nostalgia has also gotten me into reading (or in some cases re-reading) Sweet Valley High recaps at [livejournal.com profile] 1bruce1. This series I will readily admit is terrible and should not be consumed by the age group it was written for but I will also admit I love looking back at how terrible & ridiculous it was. Essentially it's like someone had written crack fanfiction but managed to pass it off as legit.

So friends, what terrible things (books, movies, etc) from your youth did you love or still currently love?

I read the Sweet Valley Little Sister books, but never Sweet Valley High...I think once I was probably old enough for SVH, I just jumped into adult fiction. I've been itching to go back and read Christopher Pike - there was one series that I'm sure is in my parents' attic that I LOVED...though I'm afraid it's going to come off as crack fanfiction too :p Just in watching the old cartoons over the weekend, there were so many terrible television choices that I loved at the time (and still nostalgically love, but am all WTF when it's something I hadn't watched as a kid).

It wasn't from my youth, but I saw Vampire's Kiss for the first time last year, and if you're a Nic Cage fan (or just a fan of the obscure) you really need to check it out!

I liked Excellent Adventure more than Bogus Journey, to be honest I'm not even sure I watched all of Bogus Journey...? lol

Sweet Valley High Game LOL I am so glad my reading tastes got much better as I got older lol

The Bargain Bins are the worst! They are so dangerous. I love going into the bookstore with money and seeing how many books I can walk out with lol

I loved the Babysitters Club, more specifically the Babysitters Little Sister Series.

I also LOVED choose your own adventure books too. I had one about a scary amusement park that had a million different options to the story, it seemed. Fun!

That's a good deal on Splash- I like that movie!

I loved 10th Kingdom and Bill & Ted.

One would think I'd have seen Splash by now, but nope!

I really loved the Bill and Ted movies, but I've not seen them for awhile.

Dude, I read Sweet Valley books, Nancy Drew, Trixie Belden, Choose Your Own Adventure, Encyclopedia Brown, Babysitter's Club, and so on. I read all the books! LOL. My nickname in school was bookworm.

Bill and Ted rule. I really liked Wayne and Garth too in Wayne's World. I look at it now and it seems so stupid but it was funny at the time!

I have a deep rooted love for cheesy 80s horror flicks.

Oh man I loved the 10th Kingdom, they used to play it all the time. I should try to find it.

How can you not love Bill & Ted especially since we're getting Bill & Ted III now.

Bill and Ted's does NOT qualify as terrible, not under any stretch o the imagination. I loved Keanu Reeves circa that time-frame and those movies hold a special place in my heart.
