About me
Hey there, this is a general information post about me for anyone I friend or for anyone who comes across my journal.
Last updated: June 10 2024, taken from
friending_memes with some additions
General
Nickname: Steph
Age Group: Early 40s
Country: Canada; Newfoundland
Pronouns: She, Her
You
Hobbies: Crochet, knitting, bullet journaling, drawing, collage
Interests: Food history, folklore, news literacy, current events, religious studies (in a cultural/academic sense)
Any dislikes?: Racism, homophobia, sexism, transphobia, conspiracy theorists, folks who threaten violence to people they disagree with
Are you into fandom?: Sometimes? I will occasionally discuss things I'm a fan of on this journal but I usually tag & cut such posts.
What does your day-to-day look like?: Hit snooze and wish I could sleep longer before I roll out of bed. If I'm lucky to get up on time I eat breakfast and then commute with my partner to work. Ordering and receiving materials for the academic library I work at, breaktime walks around campus or to the nearby public library to borrow books. Commute back home at the end of the day, have dinner, hang out with my partner or recharge with my hobbies or writing.
Entertainment
What do you like to watch?: Cobra Kai, Stranger Things, Golden Girls, Big Mouth, What We Do In the Shadows, Witcher, Bridgerton, Gargoyles, MCU stuff, Star Wars stuff, travel youtube channels, or cooking/baking shows
What movies do you enjoy?: The Lost Boys, Ginger Snaps, Mortal Kombat, Clue, Practical Magic, Booksmart, and The Final Girls are some of my favourites. I generally like action, comedy, some horror and some drama.
Do you play games? If so, what do you like?:I play Sims 4 & Stardew Valley regularly, Monster Prom series, Stray, Baldurs Gate, I occasionally play fighting games like Mortal Kombat & Street Fighter. I'd like to play more but I struggle to make time for more in-depth games. I also like writing & tabletop RPGs but they've taken a back seat at the moment.
If you like to read, what do you read?: I read a lot, which is the reason why I don't have much time for gaming😭 Non-fiction, fantasy, cozy mysteries, historical fiction, YA, comics, Psychology, and the list goes on.
What kind of music do you listen to?: Pop, Rap, 80s & 90s music, Musicals, some country, indie, etc. A few of my favourite bands/artists are The Arkells, Florence & the Machine, The Tragically Hip, Tori Amos, Alanis Morissette, Halsey, July Talk, Chappell Roan, Taylor Swift, Tom Petty, etc.
Journal & Friending
What do you post about?: My day-to-day life, progress on personal development, what I'm reading or watching, therapy & grief talk (these posts are friends only and always behind a cut & tagged), sharing art/music/stuff I think is neat
How often do you update?: I fluctuate based on my mental health. If I'm doing well, I aim for weekly. If I'm in a rough patch, I can disappear for a month or two. If this is an issue, no worries and I understand. It can be hard to get to know someone if they're not consistently present I know.
What do you look for in a DW friend?: I am looking for folks who are interested in making friends online and who enjoy sharing parts of their lives or things that interest them. I am very easy going with activity so it's not a big deal for me if someone posts sporadically.
What do you like to read about on your friend's page?: Other people's lives, their passions, and fandom posts are cool too.
Do you have any kind of friending policy?: I try to meet people at their comfort level so I'm happy to have mutual access or stick to subscribing. I don't take it personally if folks unsubscribe. It's cool if you want to let me know but it's cool if you don't, I generally keep an eye on my profile and adjust access as needed.
Do you have any deal-breakers?: Denying or downplaying the effect of Covid has had on people's lives, spreading misinformation, sharing news sites that have active ties to hate groups and all the stuff that's in my dislikes section.
How often do you comment? I try to comment regularly but sometimes I struggle to know what to say so I tend to rely on encouraging comments or things like "Hey glad/sorry to hear that about X" because I want to let you know I'm reading and paying attention. I also like to use gifs & emojis occasionally.
How often do you want others to comment? It's not a big deal if folks don't comment to me. It's nice but I know we all have fluctuating energy levels and life stuff happening, plus sometimes it's hard to know what to say. I don't take it personally if folks don't comment. I am 100% cool with gifs and emojis as comments too.
When/Why do you remove others from your friends list? In most cases I usually only remove folks when they remove me OR they never added me back OR the journal went in active after a year or two. In rare cases, in the past I have removed folks who engaged in behaviours that went against my values, like treating me or others poorly but thankfully that's been very rare.
How do you feel about re-friending? Great and I'm all for it. I'm happy to add people or be added back in the majority of cases. If there is an issue I'm concerned about I'll DM.
Content Warnings
Some topics I have/may discuss in my journal are death, grief, loss of parents, loss of a sibling, friendship ending, mental health, cancer, family estrangement, sudden loss, car accidents, loss via suicide, therapy, anxiety, and depression.
The bolded subjects are the ones that are more frequent but for all of the above subjects I do use cut text and warnings if I am writing in detail. Please do not feel obligated to read or comment on any post if the subject is uncomfortable for you.
