problems of yesterday, problems of today

I finished transcribing the 1890/1891 journal from the anonymous young woman and just when she gets with the man she's been pining for the book peters out, ending with a short ambiguous entry from 1902. Did they marry? Did she finally leave Three Arms? Did she eventually figure out the difference between 'the' and 'they'?

Seriously, that last thing drove me. When transcribing our instructions are to keep to the original spelling but it so obvious what she meant and it was a little annoying that I just couldn't fix it. Aside from that, it was an enjoyable experience and actually, I think she did get away from Three Arms. Assuming the last entry in 1902 was the author she did mention New York. While she, unfortunately, didn't write her name in the book it was interesting to see the names she mentions, particularly the last names. Makes me wonder if I've ever crossed paths with possible descendants from those mentioned. We're an island so it wouldn't be surprising, there's a lot of six-degree type connections.

As much as I enjoyed it I decided against signing up for another transcribing project for now. I originally signed up for this one around April 2020 thinking I would have time but things got very busy for me with my regular work because there was a big drive for eBooks once we moved to remote classes. I'm curious to see if we're going to have the same bump in orders once our fiscal year-end starts again in April 2021.

Aside from work...

We watched the Snyder cut of Justice League and yeah, I liked it better than the Theatrical cut....which I realize I forgot a lot of. I was constantly asking John what if this scene or that had happened in the first version. I think the highlight for me was seeing more Cyborg because it made me more interested in his character. I can absolutely see why the actor was pissed at Whedon, seeing how much of his story was cut though I know the issues he has with Whedon go beyond that.

I'm glad there's less perving on Wonder Woman. I remember the audience chuckling at those parts in the theatre and I did too but taking them really shows that they were pointless scenes. Definitely gives more side-eye to Whedon, like why did he think we needed close-ups of Gal Gadot's ass and to see Ezra Miller faceplanting into her chest?

I haven't re-watched Buffy or Firefly in a while and it makes me wonder, how much stuff will be there that will be questionable? Probably a lot. I'll still enjoy them I'm sure because I think the shows are more just Whedon but yeah...

It's like when I heard about Warren Ellis and looked back over Transmetropolitan & Castlevania. It was like 'Oh yeah, that [insert scene] takes on a different essence knowing his interactions with women & his supposed kinks'. Welp, at least I definitely don't have any lingering regrets about donating my Transmetropolitan collection to the public library. A little torn about Castlevania as I enjoy the story, voice acting, and animation. I don't know, we'll see when/if the 4th season comes out.

In other news, we have a snowstorm expected tomorrow for 15-30 cm. A little disheartening as we've had amazing sunny weather this past week and the snow is almost gone though I'm sure a few snowmobilers will be happy.
