Resolution update & highlights
Welp, so much for posting monthly to keep myself accountable. I'm glad I didn't make posting in my dreamwidth blog a resolution tbh. Though I am hopeful I'm going to get back on track posting & commenting ...God, it's good to have hope lol. On to the resolutions:
01. The big goal: Plan a trip. Preferably somewhere outside of Newfoundland. Stand-still
My partner recently traded in their vehicle so he's asked that we pause on the idea of travelling for a little while longer because he wants to save up. Very reasonable and tbh the trade was a good idea. His new vehicle has 4-wheel drive which will be super helpful in the winter for getting up our driveway & dealing with unplowed roads. I'm still doing some research for next year though and keeping an eye out for deals.
02. Complete another workbook (one I already own this time). In Progress
Currently, I am at chapter 9 - Taking Charge of Adult ADHD by Russell A. Barkley. I've been reading & learning more about ADHD this past year with the guidance of my therapist and it resonates so strongly with issues I've been struggling with. I am debating going for an assessment but it's a bit pricey so still on the fence but learning more has helped in general.
03. Learn one song on my kalimba. Stand still
March was good but April & May were not. I was more focused on painting in those months to have something new for the staff art show. Maybe I'll try again in July.
04. Put up shelves in the shed.
It's still fairly cold here so I haven't down too much work in the shed. Fingers crossed July is nicer and I can get this done.
05. Do one workshop/class
I haven't seen much that's caught my eye though there is a pressed flower class being hosted by the local pharmacy museum I might go to. I'm not much for pressed flowers but I did enjoy their embroidery class last year.
06. Read50 75 books, focusing on books I already own. In Progress; 44/75
I upped my goal because I was getting close to 50 already. Not doing so great on reading books I already own though as I keep going to the library for dopamine hits.
07. Try one new recipe
I have cooked some new items but I don't know if I'd call any of them a recipe. It's mostly been throwing things together to see what works. So, yeah still need to do this one.
08. Try one new restaurant - Completed; We went to Noodle Express February 1st
09. Try watercolour painting again - Completed; Made bird watercolour painting in April. Not posting because it is trash but an effort was made.
10. Complete one large drawing - Completed; May 2023
I'm giving myself a pass here because I did three large drawings on canvas for paintings. Images here link
It's another grey wet morning, the robins and starlings are absolutely thriving on the lawn. Seeing them dig around in the dandelion & grass makes up for the cold weather. Though I do hope we get some warmer temperatures soon. Last week I dug out all my summer clothes and I'd like to get a chance to wear them at some point this summer.
This was a good week so far. Some highlights are:
I finally tackled the rust spots in our dishwasher, using Rerack vinyl repair gloop that looks a lot like Wite-out and dishwasher rack caps.
I hauled out a few more boxes from the attic, continuing with my goal to get the attic empty. My parents used to use the attic for storage but I find it's too much of a pain in the ass to get things in and out of. When I cleared out my Dad's fishing shed in 2021, I started moving from the attic to the shed because there's way more room and no ladders.
In the attic I found a bunch of stuff that belonged to my brother which was a nostalgia bomb in mostly good ways...except the old bottles of cologne. They did not keep well these past 23 years. I get why my parents stored it all as when we moved in 2006 it had only been 6 years since he passed so I think it was still too soon for them. Still, it was a shock as I didn't realize how much his toys, hockey gear, and clothes had been kept.
My partner surprised me with an All-In-One 24MP HDMI film scanner, which I did not expect at all. I had mentioned to him that I was thinking about cleaning up all the film negatives & a pack of old slides my parents had and trying to figure out how to get digital copies. I haven't tried it out yet but now I have a new project to work on lol. Maybe something for the winter as this summer I'm hoping to get more done around the house.
