Movie time and random chatter
Jun. 18th, 2019 11:53 amI keep looking at friending communities and thinking ‘I should post’ but I keep not doing it. I don’t want to invite people to friend me and then have an unintentional silent stretch because I know what I’m like. I think I’ll try in July or maybe August when I feel confident I’m going to stick with my blog.
Yesterday I was really drained, especially after my counselling session which didn’t go as well as my sessions usually do. So I decided to catch up on watching some movies I borrowed from the public library: Adventures in Babysitting and Mamma Mia.
Adventures in Babysitting was one I remembered liking a lot as a kid but hadn’t re-watched in decades. Boy, 80s movies right? I’m always caught off guard by how frequently homophobic slurs are tossed around in older movies and stereotypes that pop up. This one isn’t as bad as some but there were a couple of moments that I was side-eyeing the movie. Also, the impromptu musical number made me cringe a bit with second hand embarrassment. But Elisabeth Shu was fun to watch and as always, enjoyed the 80s aesthetic.
This was my first time watching Mamma Mia and it while I knew the plot because of pop culture references, it was a fun watch because of ABBA and Meryl Streep looking like she was having a time. From what I’ve seen/heard of the second movie it sounds like a rehash of the first. Is it worth checking out? Or should I just listen to ABBA on Spotify instead?
